Nosferatu, released in 1922, was an unauthorized German adaptation of Bram Stoker’s original Dracula from 1897. Later, Stoker’s estate, sued for copyright infringement. The court ordered that all prints were to be burned. Some prints survived, however, thanks to the films cult followers.
